"What are your Sunday School classes like?"
We have Sunday School on Sunday morning at 9:15. The teaching methods, as well as the topics, will vary from class to class. Guests are encouraged to try out several of the options available and decide on the class best suited to their season of life. Everyone at Fort Johnson Baptist Church is encouraged to be a part of a Sunday School class as part of their growth as a follower of Jesus Christ.
"Does your church talk a lot about money?"
Not a lot. We do occasionally as it pertains to everyday life. As a guest at Fort Johnson, you are not expected to give to our offering. You may choose to give, and that is fine, but if you visit Fort Johnson you will not feel any pressure to give financially to our church. Our members support the testimony of our church by giving regularly.
"Do I have to be a church member to use the Family Life Center (FLC)?"
No. We do require all persons to join in a FLC membership to use the facility. This gives you access to the gym, aerobics room, weight room and more. Stop in for a tour today!
"What do you have for my children?"
Fort Johnson has great ministries for all age groups. Preschoolers find love, care, safety and special attention when they attend any of our services. Preschoolers also have a choir for 3, 4, & 5-year olds on Wednesdays at 7:00 p.m. Every service provides a nursery and parents can be notified of needs through a special personalized beeper system. Children also have many activities at Fort Johnson ranging from a special Children's Worship Bulletin to Children's Choir to Children's Sunday School classes. From time to time we feature our children during all the weekend worship services to show how important they are in the life of our church. Youth (7th-12th graders) are also very important to us at Fort Johnson. Our Interim Youth Ministers, B.J. and Christen Edmonds, can answer more specific questions about our youth ministry. Youth have Sunday School classes, Sunday night Worship, their own praise team and band, mission trips, and much, much more. Parents, no matter what the age of your child or children, there is a special place for them at Fort Johnson Baptist Church.
"I don't know much about the Bible. Will I feel uncomfortable?"
Our prayer is that you will be warmly greeted and helped along in your journey to know God's Word in such way that is encouraging, loving, and life-changing. We understand that you are taking a step out of your comfort zone to come to a worship service or Sunday School class. We make a conscious effort to welcome folks without putting them in the spotlight. That's why we will do everything possible to help you understand what we are doing and why we do it. Our Membership 101 Class is a great opportunity to really get to know Fort Johnson without any obligation to become a member. If you don't have a Bible and would like one, please take one of the black Bibles from a pew rack home with you - it's yours to keep.
"What does Fort Johnson believe about baptism?"
We believe those people who have committed their lives to Jesus Christ need to follow His command and example of baptism. "Believer's baptism" is our term that refers to a person being old enough to make a conscious commitment to Christ and belief in Him before being baptized. We also observe immersion, under the water, as the teaching of the Bible.
"How can someone join Fort Johnson Baptist Church?"
The steps to become a member include committing your life to Christ (Romans 10:9-10); being baptized by immersion; and completing the Membership 101 Class. You can indicate your desire to become a member on the Communication Card during a worship service or by coming to the front and talking with one of the pastors during the commitment song at the end of a service.
"Can anyone participate in communion (the Lord's Supper) at Fort Johnson Baptist church?"
Anyone who is a believer and has committed their life to Jesus Christ is welcome to participate in the Lord's Supper and remembrance of Jesus' death for us. At Fort Johnson, we observe the Lord's Supper once a quarter.
