Understanding God's desire to draw all people to Himself, in a climate of love and acceptance for all, we will be a people who:
This statement incorporates the five purposes of the church which are found in The Great Commandment (Matthew 22:36-40) and The Great Commission (Matthew 28:19-20).
10 Principles That Guide What We Do 1. DEVELOP AND MAINTAIN AN UNSHAKABLE CONVICTION ABOUT GROWTH. 2 Peter 3:9 "The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. He is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance." 2. CHANGE THE PRIMARY ROLE OF THE PASTORS FROM WORKERS TO LEADERS. Ephesians 4:11-12 "It was he who gave some to be apostles, some to be prophets, some to be evangelists, and some to be pastors and teachers, to prepare God's people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up." 3. BECOME A MINISTRY BASED CHURCH AND MOBILIZE THE CHURCH MEMBERS FOR MINISTRY. Romans 12:5-6 "so in Christ we who are many form one body, and each member belongs to all the others. And since we have gifts that differ according to the grace given to us, let each exercise them accordingly." 4. CREATE SMALL GROUPS FOR ASSIMILATION, FELLOWSHIP, AND MINISTRY. Romans 12:5 "so in Christ we who are many form one body, and each member belongs to all the others." Acts 5:42 "Day after day, in the temple courts and from house to house, they never stopped teaching and proclaiming the good news that Jesus is the Christ." 5. OFFER A VARIETY OF CHOICES FOR WORSHIP AND MINISTRY. Matthew 4:19 "Come, follow me," Jesus said, "and I will make you fishers of men." 6. CONTINUALLY RENEW AND REORGANIZE THE STRUCTURE OF OUR CHURCH. Luke 5:37-38 "And no one pours new wine into old wineskins. If he does, the new wine will burst the skins, the wine will run out and the wineskins will be ruined. No, new wine must be poured into new wineskins." 7. BE A CHURCH DRIVEN BY THE PURPOSES FOR WHICH GOD ESTABLISHED HIS CHURCH. Matthew 22:36-40 "Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?" Jesus replied: "Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.' This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: Love your neighbor as yourself.' All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments." Matthew 28:19-20 "Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age." 8. BE SEEKER SENSITIVE. Acts 17:16-17 "While Paul was waiting for them in Athens, he was greatly distressed to see that the city was full of idols. So he reasoned in the synagogue with the Jews and the God-fearing Greeks, as well as in the marketplace day by day with those who happened to be there." 9. CHANGE OUR METHODS OF DOING MINISTRY WITHOUT EVER CHANGING THE MESSAGE OF GOD'S WORD. 1 Corinthians 9:22 "To the weak I became weak, to win the weak. I have become all things to all men so that by all possible means I might save some." 10. WE WILL TAKE RISKS, FULLY REALIZING THAT WE WILL BOTH SUCCEED AND FAIL IN THE PROCESS. TRYING AND FAILING IS NOT WRONG; FAILING TO TRY IS SIN. Acts 15:26 "Men, (Paul & Barnabas), have risked their lives for the name of our Lord Jesus Christ." |
